Interesting point.
I am sure that you are right and family is a factor that should be controlled for in the research. Having a caring adult in your life to support your development surely affects your confidence and ability in school.
Thanks for the comment.

That sounds like confounding multicollinearity in terms of effects.

I don't see a correlation table so I don't know, but by interpreting coefficients I can at least say that that the family situation matters. If you have 2 parents and your mother is educated you spend less time watching TV.

If you are better off you negative correlated with obesity as an adult so I'm not convinced that we're just not observing the effect of wealth.

TV hours could be an indicator of wealth.

Go look at http://archpedi.ama-assn.org/cgi/content/full/164/5/425/POA05012T4 do you see that huge negative coefficient for BMI and a 2 parent family with an educated mother.

Thus I am not convinced by the results. Their models have so many variables in them and they didn't bother to show the power of each dependent variable.

Thanks for the tip Alison. Another lovely BNP reader sent me the email below. We will add a list of resources to this post shortly.

"As someone who suffered from PPD, I would suggest including a list of GTA resources for women who may be experiencing PPD at the end of this article. I would say that what made experiencing PPD even more difficult was not knowing what to do.

Postpartum Progress is an incredible resource. Under 'Get Help Here', there are lists of support groups, treatment programs and supportive organizations. While based in the US, it does include Canadian information.

In the GTA, women should visit http://www.oursistersplace.ca/ "

Tessa - thank you for this informative article. I had post partum depression and anxiety and received great support from the Women's Centre at St. Joe's hospital. They have a fabulous weekly PPD group (with free babysitting!) which helped me get through the hard times and overcome PPD.

OMG! It is really scary seeing a kid drowning. I had a similar experience once, it took my breath away. It does still when I think about it.
